Meganisi

Meganisi or Meganissi is the largest island of the complex of Tilevoides. The island is evergreen and is said to have been inhabited since the Neolithic Era. Ever since antiquity, the Corinthians and then locals have found shelter to Meganisi, due to its welcoming environment and proximity to land. Although the Greek island of Meganisi is a bit off the beaten track, there are still many gems here that people can’t wait to explore.

Kalamos

Kalamos is yet another islet of the southeastern shores of Lefkada. It is really serene as a destination, but during summer inhabitants double in numbers and tourists come over for a quiet day at sea. And then there is Kastos, a little further away from Kalamos. If you are looking for absolute tranquility in an idyllic ambiance, then this is certain to captivate your senses. Local fishermen weave their nets and sell the catch of the day by the shore. Skorpios

Skorpios is undoubtedly the most famous island adjacent to Lefkada. Right opposite Nidri on the eastern coastline of the island, this place has been related to glamour and extravaganza. The reason for that is none other than Onassis. The Greek tycoon and pioneer Aristotle Onassis purchased Skorpios from a local family and turned it into a Heaven on Earth. It is the place where Jackie Kennedy Onassis fell in love and found peace.

Fiskardo

The historic harbour village of Fiskardo (sometimes spelt Fiscardo) is one of the most beautiful – and popular – parts of Kefalonia. Situated at the northern tip of the island, it’s undeniably one of the highlights of any trip to this unique Greek island.

Fiskardo is the only part of Kefalonia that retains much of its original Venetian architecture, making it a really special place on the island to visit. A lot of the island’s buildings were destroyed in the earthquake of 1953, as featured in the film Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. Its winding waterfront is lined with luxury boats, up market seafood restaurants, and is home to some of the priciest real estate in all of Greece thanks to the patronage of the rich and the famous who drops by on the mega yachts.

Assos

The village of Assos in Kefalonia is a charming village perched on the water’s edge. The village is full of Venetian ruins most notably the ruins of an old Venetian castle. Assos is made up of pebbled beaches, traditional buildings and colorful houses. It is a beautiful village with narrow alleys full of flowering foliage and old churches. This castle is a stunning example of Venetian architecture. Visiting this castle requires quite a long walk.

The route will take you through stunning olive tree forests to the arched entrance. Fortunately the arch itself is one of the most preserved parts of all the ruins. Assos is truly picturesque and although it’s popular its beautiful scenery and tranquil atmosphere more than make up for it.

Vathy

Vathy or Vathi is the largest settlement on the Greek Ionian island of Ithaca It is located in the southern part of the island, in a deep natural harbour.

In the Middle Ages, Ionian islands were subject to frequent pirate raids, which forced inhabitants to build settlements inland. Vathy was only formed in the 16th century, during the late Venetian rule. In 1807, French built a fortress on the Loutsa hill at the port entrance. Vathy was devastated by the 1953 Ionian earthquake which left only a few buildings standing. Gradually, the buildings were rebuilt in the original Venetian style.

Islet of Lazareto

Islet of Lazareto at the entrance to the Bay of Vathy hosts the chapel dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Savior, built in 1668. Since 1560, the islet served as a 40-day quarantine station for ships entering the harbor.
Without doubt, Kioni is one of Ithaca’s most beautiful villages and one of the most stunning destinations in the Ionian Sea.

As you approach Kioni, you are greeted by the sight of its small, beautiful bay and by the traditional, well-maintained houses built in the amphitheatre rising from the sea and losing themselves in the woodlands of the surrounding hillsides.
To your left is the small cove of Mavronas, which provides a safe refuge for small fishing boats.

Atokos

Atokos, is a small Greek island in the Ionian Sea. The One House Bays is a preferred option for anchorage, as it safer for boats from the NW winds and has better access to the island via a pebbled beach and small flat hinterland. Atokos is a private island owned by the ship-owner family of Panayiotis Tsakos. The tiny islet is uninhabited except for a few goats that roam freely around the island.

On the island there is the small chapel of St. John Visitors are allowed to go and swim in the beautiful beaches with the crystal-clear turquoise waters. To approach it requires a private boat. The seabed is very rich, ideal for snorkeling. Atokos is inside a Natura 2000 area.

Of all the beautiful Ionian Islands, Lefkada is admittedly the most easily accessible. It is connected to the mainland by a bridge, thus making the drive from Aktio Airport only 15 minutes. You might have heard of our island, as its beaches and scenery are world-famous. Porto Katsiki and Egremnoi, for example, are two of the most magnificent beaches in Europe and known all over the world. However, you can do a lot more than just swim, while in Lefkada. There is a range of activities you can try, such as windsurfing or kitesurfing. If you are feeling adventurous, you can even go scuba diving.

Porto Katsiki

One of the most famous beaches worldwide, Porto Katsiki is in the south-west of the island. It is known for its spectacular landscape and the stunning cool blue waters. Should you want to spend your day there, there are small canteens just over the beach, as well as pay parking.

Egremnoi

Another famous beach, Egremnoi is probably one of the most breathtaking sceneries in the world. It is named after the awe-inspiring white cliffs surrounding it (Egremni=cliffs). The beach is accessible by boat, which you can board at the port of Nydri and from the port of Vasiliki. You can also go by car.

Milos

Right before you reach Kathisma, you will pass through the picturesque fishing village of Agios Nikitas. Walking down the cobbled street, you will find a small bay encircled by white rocks where you can enjoy a swim in calm waters. Afterwards, have a bite or a drink in any of the many traditional restaurants and cafes. From there, a boat can take you to the secluded and much larger beach of Milos that is right next to the village over the hills. If you are active, however, you can opt for hiking to Milos; just make sure you are wearing sturdy shoes.
